Funk House Defense Too Much For Geo Metro!

Kendall Hilton, Fan-I Sports, Goodman League Reporter.

Saturday night Inside The Gates, as usual, turned out to be a good one. In the first game, the A-Team defeated Kid International 53-45. The game started off with both teams going back and forth. Kid International built its largest lead, 17-13, with 7:30 left in the first half but it all A-Team after that.

The A-Team finished the first half with a 23-10 run to walk into halftime with a 36-27 lead. Kid International attempted to make a run of their own cutting the A-Team’s lead to 4 points but could never turn the corner. JoJo of the A-Team led them with 21 points, and if it wasn’t for a few missed free throws, he could have ended up with 30. JoJo found his way penetrating Kid International defense with little resistance.

Applejack of Kid International led the team with 19 points.

In the main event, it featured FunkHouse v. Geo-Metro. Geo Metro – still proving themselves Inside The Gates – had a rough night against the Piranhas, losing 58-46. FunkHouse on the other hand was on a mission to prove that they are still one of the best teams Inside The Gates even without a couple players.

FunkHouse used relentless defense that head coach, FunkHouse Boo, preaches religiously. Justin Black and Jaron Jackson aka J-Roc, really put the pressure on Geo Metro guards.

“Mo [Geo-Metro coach] was talking a lot shit in the beginning of the year, saying they had the best backcourt in the league and we shut that down.” said Justin Black, FunkHouse leading scorer. “It’s just funny cause FunkHouse don’t get any respect but we’re still going to be in the final four this year.”

I will take the blame for igniting a fuse in the FunkHouse backcourt because I labeled Phil and Rafriel as one of the best backcourts in the league, which I still stand behind. J-Roc and Justin, the Bowie-Morgan State connection, definitely took offense to that both taking on the scoring role and defending on the perimeter. Combined they finished with 25 points.

FunkHouse only played with 6 players and may have found a new piece. The heart & soul of the squad, Pigg, was not available, currently in Florida with his AAU squad. Funkhouse Boo mentioned that once they become full strength that they will be hard to beat. No matter who is on the roster, defense is still the message.

“Defense win championships, offense bring in fans.” FunkHouse Boo said. “As long as we play defense we’ll be in any game we play in.”

In the beginning of the season, Funkhouse Boo did not know whether or not Justin Black would be on the squad this year, due to Black aiming for a job in the NBA. Black has worked out with the Wizards and Pacers, waiting for a call. While playing ball in the NBA is the ultimate goal, Justin doesn’t mind playing somewhere else. Stay Tuned!
